Job Responsibilities: Teaching and learning 1. Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the Class Teacher. 2. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes for students, help monitor their progress and feedback to the teacher and Director of Academic Studies . 3. Provide support for individuals and groups of students inside and outside the classroom. 4. Undertake some teaching tasks with groups of students following plans as prepared by teachers. 5. Assist class teachers in assessment and record keeping. 6. Support students with emotional/behavioral issues and help develop their social and personal skills. 7. To encourage and support the skills of independence and self reliance. 8. Undertake routine tasks to support the curriculum and assist with events e.g outings, field trips and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the teacher. 9. Provide feedback to students in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher. 10. Provide feedback to teachers through verbal or written notes. 11. Prepare resources and materials for new student arriving in school throughout the academic year. 12. Support the teacher in creating a positive learning environment. 13. To develop and improve own teaching ability through active participation in the 14. NQT mentoring programme. 15. To substitute classes as assigned by the Director of Academic Studies and the principals. Administrative/additional duties 1. Photocopying and creating resources in order to support learning and teaching. Present displays of students’ work. 2. Assist in classroom preparation and clearing up. 3. Assist with supervising students during break and lunch times as per the school timetable. 4. As appropriate, look after sick/hurt/upset students and attend to physical needs where appropriate. Support for the school 1. To fully support the aims and ethos of the school. 2. Support fellow professionals. 3. Attend team and staff meetings where necessary. 4. Follow agreed policies and procedures. 5. Work to maintain positive relationships with parents and the local community. 6. Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety. 7. Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance. 8. Attend relevant training activities where required. 9. Where appropriate assist with the supervision of students outside lesson times. 10. Where required, to attend and contribute to meetings regarding individual students. 11. The NQT will be expected to undertake other duties and responsibilities that the Principal or SLT may request from time to time. Qualifications/Experience/Knowledge 1. Bachelor’s Degree or above (preferably in Education, English etc.). 2. Practical knowledge of equipment, including IT equipment where appropriate, to support learning in a variety of lessons and learning environments either on a one-to-one basis or small groups, under the direction and supervision of the teacher. 3. Ability to recognize changes in students’ behavior and report to the teacher. 4. Ability to complete straightforward paperwork e.g. incident report form. 5. Ability to communicate clearly with students and others Ability to explain straightforward tasks and activities to students under the direction of the teacher. 6. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. 7. Ability to work with small groups of students carrying out specific tasks or on field trips etc. 8. Ability to make straightforward decisions on when to refer queries/problems to another member of staff. 9. Ability to manage students’ behavior on the bus journey and deal with emergency and other unforeseen situation. 10. Use of keyboard and mouse may be required if supporting students using IT equipment. 11. Use of paper cutter, craft knives, glue guns etc. when displaying work or helping pupils in practical lessons.
